Goodbye Justice, hello Nike
Tomorrow is my first day at AKQA working with the Nike Women's team. Before I started I wanted to get a feeling of the current digital offer — Nike Training Club. Not with design, data or research, but as a user.
What better way to prepare for my own fitness goals and get a clear feeling for the product (or service) I will be working on than using it myself? Not to mention a good way to combat the post-festive period.
My training goal
My goal for 2015 is to get back into mountain bike riding. It's a sport I love. For me, it’s all about the physical challenge of riding for hours, the adventure of navigating country paths and just getting out of the city to the 'great outdoors'. (As an Australian who lives in London - a city of 8 million people - this last point is really important to me!)
However, over the past year, my mountain bikes have been very neglected. I tell myself I haven't had the time, but really it’s a fear of not having the core fitness to do the rides that has stopped me getting out there. I have decided it's finally its time to get back on the horse, or bike, as the case may be!
About the product?
Without letting my digital product or service design head affect my thoughts, I wanted to see how the product held up for my own needs. So… what is my gut feeling about Nike Training Club after just 14 workouts, 302 minutes and 11k of NikeFuel? Can it really help me achieve my goal?
Apart from my partner enjoying a good giggle at my expense while I jump around the lounge trying to avoid the Christmas tree - and that the neighbours might think we have adopted a stomping baby elephant - yes, I think it can help me achieve my goal. The workouts are definitely not easy and the programmes are challenging; they have forced me out of my comfort zone.
I am unsure if I can keep up the same momentum on the app once I am back at work alongside a good dose of bike riding!
Going forward
I have found this really helpful to get a better idea of the service opportunities and product features the team at AKQA and Nike have worked hard to deliver and I am looking forward to getting stuck in!
